Parents Urged to Update Children Aadhaar Biometrics at Age Five and Fifteen to Avoid Future Service Issues

UIDAI says children must complete mandatory Aadhaar biometric updates at ages five and fifteen to prevent authentication problems affecting school admissions scholarships competitive exams and government related services later

Parents across the country are being advised to check their children’s Aadhaar details carefully, especially if the child has recently turned five or fifteen years old. According to UIDAI, completing the Mandatory Biometric Update at these ages is essential to ensure smooth Aadhaar authentication in the future.

The authority has clarified that children’s biometric details such as fingerprints and iris scans change as they grow. Because of this, the biometric data captured during early childhood may no longer remain accurate after a few years. To maintain updated identification records, UIDAI has made biometric updates compulsory at two stages of a child’s life.

The process includes taking a fresh photograph along with updated fingerprint and eye scan records. Officials say the update is important because Aadhaar has now become a key identity document for education, competitive examinations and several government related services.

Updated Aadhaar information can help during school and college admissions, scholarship applications and entrance exams such as NEET, JEE and CUET. In many cases, biometric verification is also used for internships, fellowships and various welfare schemes. Incorrect or outdated records may create delays during identity verification processes.

To encourage families to complete the update on time, the government is currently offering this service free of cost for children between five and seventeen years of age until September 30, 2026. Parents can visit any nearby Aadhaar Enrollment Center or Aadhaar Seva Kendra to complete the process.

Officials have stated that the update procedure usually takes only a few minutes. During the visit, the child’s latest photograph, fingerprints and iris scans are recorded again and updated in the Aadhaar database. Parents may be asked to carry the child’s Aadhaar number along with some identification documents. In certain cases, the Aadhaar details of parents may also be required.

UIDAI has warned that failing to complete the Mandatory Biometric Update on time may lead to authentication issues later. This could affect access to educational services, government schemes and digital verification systems linked with Aadhaar.

Authorities are therefore encouraging parents not to delay the process and ensure their children’s Aadhaar records remain accurate and updated for future use.
