Redmi A5 Gets Costlier in India After Price Hike of Rs 1500
Budget smartphone buyers face a setback as Redmi A5 price increases in India raising costs for both variants despite its large display strong battery and 32MP camera positioning

Rising prices are beginning to impact the budget smartphone segment, and Redmi A5 is the latest example. Xiaomi sub brand Redmi has increased the price of its affordable A5 smartphone in India, making it significantly more expensive than its original launch price.
The Redmi A5 was introduced last year as a value focused device aimed at entry level users. Its aggressive pricing made it popular among buyers looking for a large display and dependable battery without spending much. That appeal has now taken a hit following a price increase of Rs 1500 across both storage variants.
Under the revised pricing, the 3GB RAM and 64GB storage model now costs Rs 7999. Earlier, this variant was available for Rs 6499. Similarly, the 4GB RAM and 128GB storage option has moved up from Rs 7499 to Rs 8999. The hike applies uniformly, leaving no variant untouched.
This change may disappoint buyers who were considering the Redmi A5 mainly because of its budget friendly tag. Many users in this segment are highly price sensitive, and even a small increase can influence buying decisions.
Despite the higher price, the Redmi A5 continues to offer specifications that stand out in the entry level category. The phone features a large display, a 32MP rear camera, and a 5200mAh battery designed to last through a full day of use. These features were key selling points at launch and still remain relevant.
With smartphone prices gradually increasing across brands, the Redmi A5 price revision reflects a broader trend in the market. Whether buyers will continue to see value in the device at its new price point remains to be seen, especially as competition in the budget segment continues to intensify.
