Smartphone Prices Surge in India as Major Brands Announce Sudden Hike

Consumers face unexpected price increases across budget and mid range smartphones as brands revise rates from April 1, impacting buying plans nationwide

In a move that has caught many buyers off guard, several leading smartphone brands in India have quietly increased prices across a wide range of devices. The revision, which came into effect from April 1, 2026, affects as many as 16 models and spans across entry level, budget, and mid range segments.

The price hike ranges between Rs 500 and Rs 3000, making even affordable smartphones noticeably more expensive. This shift is not limited to premium devices but extends to everyday models that are popular among cost conscious users. For many planning to upgrade or purchase a new phone, the sudden increase has disrupted budgets.

Among the brands impacted are Realme, Redmi, Ai Plus, and Motorola, all of which have revised pricing for several of their existing models. Devices like Motorola G06 Power, Ai Plus Pulse, Ai Plus Nova 5G, and Redmi 15C 5G are part of the list that has seen new pricing.

The effect is particularly visible in the budget category. For instance, the Ai Plus Pulse, which was earlier available at Rs 7499 for its base variant, now costs Rs 7999 after a Rs 500 increase. Similarly, the higher variant has also become costlier by the same margin. Redmi 15C 5G has seen a sharper rise, with its price going up by Rs 1500, taking it from Rs 13999 to Rs 15499.

Motorola users are also feeling the impact. The Moto G06 Power, initially launched at Rs 7499, has now jumped significantly to Rs 9999 after a steep increase of Rs 2500. This places it closer to mid range territory, changing its value proposition for buyers.

Realme devices have not been spared either. The Realme P3 Ultra 5G has recorded one of the highest hikes in this round. Its 8GB and 256GB variant, previously priced at Rs 25999, now retails at Rs 28999 following a Rs 3000 increase.

Other models affected include Redmi 15 5G, Redmi Note 15 5G, Realme C71 4G, Realme C83 5G, Realme P4 Pro 5G, Realme P4 Lite 5G, Realme 15 5G, Realme 15T 5G, Realme 15x 5G, Realme C85 5G, and Realme 16 Pro 5G.

With prices rising across multiple categories, buyers may now need to reconsider their options or stretch their budgets. Industry observers believe such adjustments could be linked to rising component costs and market dynamics, though brands have not officially detailed the reasons behind the sudden revision.

For now, consumers planning a purchase are advised to recheck updated prices before making a decision, as the smartphone market continues to see rapid and unexpected changes.
