Vodafone Idea Revises Prepaid Plans with Higher Prices and Reduced Benefits

Telecom operator introduces new prepaid options while increasing tariffs in select circles and cutting data benefits on existing plans, leaving many users reassessing value and long term affordability

Telecom operator Vodafone Idea has rolled out a major overhaul of its prepaid portfolio, bringing a mix of price hikes, reduced benefits and newly introduced plans across select regions. The changes, which vary by circle, are already impacting users who rely on the company’s popular unlimited data offerings.

In one of the key revisions, the earlier 649 plan has been increased to 670 in several circles. The updated pack now offers unlimited calling, daily SMS and access to 4G and 5G data under the company’s NonStop Hero category, with a validity of 56 days. However, the availability of unlimited 5G remains restricted to areas with active coverage.

Similarly, users in certain regions have seen the 1020 plan revised to 1050. This pack extends validity to 84 days while continuing to bundle calling, messaging and high speed data. These incremental increases may appear small, but they add to the growing cost of staying connected, especially for long term users.

At the same time, the company has quietly reduced benefits on several plans without changing their prices. A number of NonStop Hero plans have been shifted to the Hero Unlimited category, which limits daily data instead of offering unrestricted usage. Plans priced in the mid and premium segments now come with fixed daily data caps, after which speeds drop significantly.

These revised packs still include additional perks such as weekend data rollover, night data access and occasional bundled subscriptions to streaming services. However, the shift from unlimited to capped data has raised concerns among heavy users who depend on uninterrupted connectivity.

In a parallel move, Vodafone Idea has introduced a few new plans to balance its lineup. A lower priced option at 325 now offers a modest data bundle with calling and SMS benefits for 28 days, targeting budget conscious users. Meanwhile, longer validity plans priced above 2000 have also been launched in select circles, providing extended service periods with unlimited data and calling benefits.

The company has also replaced an older high value plan with a slightly cheaper alternative in some regions, offering similar validity but repositioned pricing. Additionally, a small add on data pack aimed at cricket fans has been introduced, bundling short term data access with streaming benefits.

Industry observers note that these changes reflect a broader trend in the telecom sector where operators are trying to improve revenues while managing network costs. For users, however, the immediate effect is a need to carefully compare plans and reassess their usage patterns.

As competition intensifies and data consumption continues to rise, such pricing adjustments are likely to remain a recurring feature in the prepaid market. For now, Vodafone Idea subscribers may need to pay closer attention to plan details before their next recharge.
