WhatsApp Introduces Private AI Chats With New Incognito Feature
WhatsApp users will soon be able to chat with Meta AI in complete privacy as the new Incognito feature promises disappearing conversations, secure processing, and protection from unwanted access to personal queries.

WhatsApp is preparing to strengthen user privacy with a new feature that could change how people interact with artificial intelligence on the platform. Meta has officially introduced Incognito Chat for Meta AI on WhatsApp and the Meta AI app, allowing users to hold private AI conversations that disappear automatically after the session ends.
The company says the feature is designed especially for people who hesitate to ask personal questions to AI tools because of privacy concerns. Many users often seek advice related to health, relationships, finance or career decisions, but remain uncomfortable knowing that conversations could be stored or reviewed later. With the new Incognito mode, Meta claims these concerns will be addressed through temporary and protected AI interactions.
One of the biggest highlights of the feature is that conversations will automatically vanish once the user exits the chat, closes the application or locks the phone. According to Meta, the AI will not retain memory of those discussions, meaning there will be no saved context from earlier chats. This creates a more secure environment for users who want short term confidential interactions without leaving a digital record behind.
Meta has also emphasized that even the company itself will not be able to read these chats. The feature reportedly works on a system called Private Processing Technology, where requests are handled in a secure cloud environment. The company says the data remains isolated during processing and does not move across other systems, reducing the chances of unauthorized access.
The rollout of the Incognito Chat feature is expected to happen gradually for users worldwide. Once available, users will notice a dedicated Incognito option inside Meta AI chats. By enabling it, the conversation instantly shifts into a protected private mode. At the moment, the feature supports only text based interactions. Options such as image uploads or AI image generation are not included in the initial version.
Industry experts believe this move reflects growing pressure on technology companies to offer stronger privacy safeguards for AI tools. As AI assistants become more integrated into daily life, users are increasingly worried about how their conversations are stored, analyzed or used for training future models. By introducing disappearing AI chats, WhatsApp appears to be targeting those fears directly.
Meta has also revealed plans for another upcoming feature called Side Chat. This tool will allow users to privately ask questions to Meta AI while participating in a WhatsApp conversation or group chat. Currently, questions asked to AI inside groups may be visible to other participants. The new Side Chat system aims to make those interactions completely private without interrupting the main conversation.
The company believes these updates could encourage more people to use AI services comfortably without worrying about exposure of sensitive topics. Privacy has become one of the most discussed issues in the AI industry, and messaging platforms are now trying to balance advanced features with stronger user control.
With secure conversations, disappearing messages and isolated AI processing, WhatsApp is positioning its AI tools as more personal and trustworthy. As the feature reaches more devices in the coming weeks, users will likely be watching closely to see whether the promise of truly private AI conversations can match real world expectations.
