In a surprising internal move, the Aam Aadmi Party has removed its prominent leader Raghav Chadha from the position of deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha. The party has appointed Punjab MP Ashok Mittal as his replacement and has officially informed the Rajya Sabha Secretariat about the change.

The decision comes at a time when Chadha has been actively raising public issues in Parliament, drawing attention across the country. His strong remarks on rising mobile recharge costs and the alleged practices of private telecom companies had gone viral on social media. He also questioned telecom policies related to mobile data usage and highlighted urban traffic challenges in major cities. Additionally, Chadha spoke about how banks burden common people under the pretext of maintaining minimum balances.

Despite his active parliamentary presence, sources indicate that the party leadership was not satisfied with his recent conduct. Reports suggest that Chadha’s silence on crucial party matters created unease within the leadership. Notably, when top leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia received legal relief in the Delhi liquor case, Chadha did not publicly react, either in statements or on social media, which reportedly raised concerns.

His absence from several important party meetings has also been cited as a reason behind the decision. Party insiders believe that this pattern of limited engagement with internal affairs contributed to growing dissatisfaction among senior leaders.

Chadha, a chartered accountant by profession, has been associated with the Aam Aadmi Party since its inception in 2012. Once considered a close aide of Arvind Kejriwal, he has held several key roles, including national treasurer and member of the Political Affairs Committee. He also played a role in coordinating opposition efforts under the INDIA bloc.

During his political career, Chadha served as an MLA in Delhi before being elected to the Rajya Sabha. He has also worked as vice chairman of the Delhi Jal Board and as an advisor to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Currently, he continues to hold responsibilities as co incharge of AAP in Punjab.

While the party has not officially stated detailed reasons, the move has sparked discussions in political circles, with many viewing it as a signal of internal recalibration within AAP.
