The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission has intensified preparations for the upcoming local body elections as the tenure of existing governing bodies nears completion. Officials are working with a target to release the election notification in September and finish the entire process before the end of December.

To review the arrangements, State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha held an important meeting with senior officials in Amaravati. Representatives from Panchayat Raj, Rural Development, Municipal Administration and BC Welfare departments attended the discussions focused on election readiness.

Officials informed the commission that the ward and division reorganisation process is currently underway across 123 municipalities in the state. According to the latest update, the exercise is expected to be completed by June 26, paving the way for the next stage of election planning.

At the same time, the government is also moving ahead with the BC reservation process. A dedicated commission formed for reservation finalisation is likely to submit its report to the state government in June. Based on that report, reservations are expected to be officially finalised during July.

Sources said voter lists for more than 13,000 gram panchayats in Andhra Pradesh have already been published. Election authorities are now focusing on completing all pending administrative formalities within the scheduled timeline.

The State Election Commission aims to ensure that newly elected local governing bodies assume office at the beginning of the new year. Officials believe timely completion of ward restructuring, voter list verification and reservation procedures will play a key role in conducting smooth elections across the state.

Political observers say the upcoming local body elections are likely to attract significant attention, as they will be the first major grassroots level electoral exercise in Andhra Pradesh after recent political developments in the state.
