Andhra Pradesh is set to witness a major industrial boost as Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for a massive steel plant project in Anakapalli district. The project, backed by ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India, involves an investment of Rs 1.36 lakh crore.

The steel plant will be developed at Rajayyapeta in Nakkapalli mandal and is expected to become one of the largest industrial projects in the state. Officials stated that the plant will have a total production capacity of 17.8 million tons per annum once fully operational.

The project will be implemented in two phases. In the first phase, the plant will produce 7.3 million tons per annum, while the second phase will expand capacity by an additional 10.5 million tons. The facility will be spread across 5,465 acres.

Alongside the steel plant, the company will also develop a captive port with a capacity of 50 million tons. The port will be constructed over 316 acres with an investment of Rs 11,198 crore and is expected to create around 6,000 additional jobs.

The foundation ceremony was attended by Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and key industry leaders including Lakshmi Mittal, Aditya Mittal and Dilip Oommen.

Officials emphasized that the state government will extend full support to ensure timely completion of the project. Infrastructure development is also underway, including a four lane road connecting the plant to National Highway 16 to facilitate smooth transportation.

The project is expected to strengthen India’s steel production capacity while positioning Andhra Pradesh as a key industrial hub in the coming years.
