A dramatic political contest is unfolding in West Bengal as early trends show the Bharatiya Janata Party moving decisively ahead in the assembly election results. With leads in around 190 seats out of 293, the party appears poised for a historic breakthrough in the state.
Amid these developments, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has raised strong objections to the counting process. She alleged that the results being projected in the initial rounds are not reflecting the actual ground reality and questioned the transparency of vote counting.
Banerjee claimed that in several constituencies, counting was either slowed down or deliberately paused. According to her, such actions have influenced early trends in favor of the BJP. She further suggested that the unfolding results appear to follow a pre planned pattern rather than a natural counting process.
She also directed party agents stationed at counting centers to remain vigilant and not leave until the final rounds are completed. Expressing confidence, she said the situation could change significantly once all rounds are counted.
Another major concern raised by Banerjee relates to alleged irregularities in voter lists under a revision process referred to as SIR. She accused authorities of manipulating voter data, claiming that votes belonging to All India Trinamool Congress supporters were diverted, calling it a serious threat to democratic values.
The Trinamool Congress leader also criticized the deployment of central forces, alleging they were being used for political advantage. She stated that even the state police appeared to be functioning under pressure, limiting their ability to act independently.
Meanwhile, trends indicate that TMC is leading in close to 100 seats, while the Indian National Congress is ahead in only one constituency. If the current pattern continues, the BJP could secure its first ever government in West Bengal, marking a major shift in the state’s political landscape.
