Cisco Layoffs Expand as Global Tech Companies Cut Thousands of Jobs
Major technology companies including Cisco, LinkedIn, Amazon, and GitLab announced fresh layoffs as firms shift focus toward artificial intelligence investments and large scale business restructuring plans worldwide.

Global technology companies are continuing large scale layoffs as the industry rapidly shifts toward artificial intelligence driven operations and cost restructuring strategies.
Networking giant Cisco has announced plans to reduce nearly five percent of its global workforce, affecting close to four thousand employees worldwide. Cisco Chief Executive Officer Chuck Robbins reportedly confirmed the decision as part of the company’s changing business priorities and increased investments in artificial intelligence technologies.
The wave of job cuts is not limited to Cisco alone. Professional networking platform LinkedIn has also decided to remove around five percent of its workforce. The company currently employs nearly seventeen thousand five hundred full time workers globally, and about eight hundred seventy five employees are expected to be impacted.
Meanwhile, Amazon stated that it would reduce a small number of jobs in its sales partnership services division. Employees in this department primarily work with third party sellers connected to Amazon’s marketplace operations.
Software company GitLab has also announced a major restructuring move. The company plans to cut nearly thirty percent of its workforce in selected markets as part of operational changes. At present, GitLab employs around two thousand five hundred eighty people across different countries.
Interestingly, despite the layoffs in some regions, GitLab has revealed plans to recruit around twenty new employees in India, indicating that companies continue to view India as an important technology and talent hub.
The growing impact of layoffs has also reached Indian engineering graduates. Technology giant Oracle, which had already removed nearly thirty thousand employees earlier, reportedly cancelled job offer letters issued to students from prestigious institutes including IITs and NITs.
A student from NIT Warangal shared a copy of the cancellation letter on social media, drawing attention to the uncertainty faced by fresh graduates entering the technology industry.
According to reports, Oracle informed candidates that the withdrawal of offers was part of internal restructuring efforts and not related to any shortcomings from the selected students.
Industry experts say the current trend reflects a larger transformation within the technology sector where companies are aggressively investing in artificial intelligence tools while simultaneously reducing traditional operational costs.
The continuing layoffs have created anxiety among employees and students alike, especially as many young professionals had hoped for stable careers in the technology sector after years of strong hiring growth.
