The CPM Central Committee has taken disciplinary action against senior Telangana leader Tammineni Veerabhadram, formally censuring him over his conduct during the 2024 state secretary election. The move has brought to light serious internal differences within the Telangana unit of the party.

According to the party leadership, the decision followed allegations that Veerabhadram engaged in lobbying and encouraged factional politics during the selection of the new state secretary. The Central Committee stated that instead of allowing a democratic and transparent discussion, certain leaders attempted to influence the process through group mobilization and behind the scenes campaigning.

The report observed that the state committee had become sharply divided during the election period. Efforts by senior leaders including members of the Politburo to restore unity reportedly did not yield results. A section of the leadership, including Veerabhadram, was said to have resisted reconciliation measures.

The Central Committee emphasized that senior leaders resorting to internal maneuvering and public campaigns went against the long standing traditions of the party. Explanations were sought not only from Tammineni Veerabhadram but also from state committee members Skylab Babu and Prasad.

However, the party leadership expressed dissatisfaction with the replies submitted by the three leaders. It noted that the explanations lacked clarity and did not reflect any sense of self reflection. Consequently, the Central Committee announced a formal censure against them.

The action has intensified discussions about factionalism within the Telangana CPM. Political observers say the development highlights the growing strain inside the party’s state unit and the challenge of maintaining unity amid leadership transitions.
