A Cyber Crime Inspector working with the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau has been arrested by the Anti Corruption Bureau in a bribery case involving an alleged demand of Rs 9 lakh. The arrest has drawn attention to allegations of misuse of official authority within the department.

According to information released by the Anti Corruption Bureau, Inspector Batula Mahender allegedly demanded money from a complainant in connection with a cyber fraud investigation. He is accused of seeking financial benefits in exchange for not implicating the complainant’s family members and friends in the case.

Investigators stated that the officer had already received Rs 5 lakh in cash from the complainant. Authorities allege that he continued pressuring the complainant for the remaining Rs 4 lakh and resorted to threats while pursuing the balance amount.

Acting on a complaint, officials from the ACB Central Investigation Unit conducted an operation on May 30 and took the inspector into custody from his office. The arrest was made while the officer was allegedly continuing efforts to collect the remaining money.

During the subsequent investigation, ACB teams carried out searches at the officer’s residence. Officials reported the recovery of Rs 13 lakh in unaccounted cash along with gold ornaments and several property related documents.

Authorities said the seized assets are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation. Further inquiries are underway to determine the source of the recovered cash and evaluate the officer’s financial holdings.

The arrested inspector is expected to be produced before the Special ACB Court in Nampally. Officials confirmed that the investigation remains active and additional details may emerge as the case progresses.
