The Delhi High Court has stepped in to accelerate the visa process of Parnia Qureshi, asking authorities to act without delay while her long pending legal dispute continues. The court also instructed officials to take a decision on her sister’s visa application within a strict ten day timeline.
The case revolves around complications linked to citizenship status and eligibility norms. Parnia Qureshi, an American citizen, had earlier approached the court challenging the cancellation of her Person of Indian Origin status. She also questioned rules that restrict eligibility for Overseas Citizen of India status for individuals with Pakistani lineage.
During the hearing, the court directed the Foreign Regional Registration Office to process her visa application in line with existing guidelines instead of allowing procedural delays. At the same time, the bench made it clear that her case requires careful consideration as legal questions are still under examination.
Authorities had argued that she was staying in India without valid permission, adding another layer of complexity to the issue. However, the court noted that her past association with Indian citizenship and her long standing documentation cannot be ignored at this stage.
Parnia Qureshi was born in Pakistan but later gave up that nationality along with her mother. She eventually acquired Indian citizenship and later became a United States citizen. Her legal plea highlights how changing citizenship laws and updated policies have affected individuals with mixed backgrounds.
The court had earlier protected her status temporarily and maintained that no final action should be taken until the matter is fully heard. With the latest direction, the focus has now shifted to ensuring that the visa process moves quickly while the legal battle continues in parallel.
