Suspended Endowments Department Assistant Commissioner Kalingiri Shanti has once again been taken into custody by the Anti Corruption Bureau as part of the ongoing investigation into a disproportionate assets case. This marks the second time she has been placed under ACB custody in the same matter.

The latest custody was granted by a court in Vijayawada after ACB officials informed the court that Shanti was not cooperating during earlier questioning. Acting on this request, the court permitted two days of fresh custody, leading officials to take her from the Vijayawada district jail for further interrogation.

Before being shifted for questioning, Shanti underwent medical examination at a government hospital. She was later moved to the ACB office where the investigation resumed with a focus on gathering key details that officials claim were not disclosed earlier.

Earlier this month, ACB teams carried out extensive searches at multiple locations linked to Shanti, including properties in Tadepalli, Undavalli and Visakhapatnam. These searches reportedly lasted nearly ten hours and led to the identification of assets valued at around Rs 1.37 crore, believed to be disproportionate to her known sources of income.

During the raids, officials seized several assets including a flat in Visakhapatnam, a multi storey residential building in Kunchanapalli, gold ornaments weighing 776 grams, about three kilograms of silver items, cash, bank deposits, a car, a motorcycle and electronic gadgets.

Following these findings, a case was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act and Shanti was arrested. Since then, she has been in judicial custody. Notably, this is the second time in two years that she has faced suspension.

Shanti, who was appointed through the APPSC in 2020, had previously been suspended in 2024 after allegations of irregularities surfaced following a change in government. She remained under suspension until March 2026 and had only recently resumed duty. However, she was arrested in the assets case before being assigned a new posting, bringing her back under scrutiny once again.
