The Congress high command has appointed senior leader Errabelli Swarna as the new Telangana Mahila Congress President. The announcement was made by AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal in an official statement issued on Friday.
The appointment was made under the direction of Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge. Party leaders said the decision recognizes Swarna long political journey and her dedication to the organization for more than four decades.
Errabelli Swarna began her political career in 1985 as an ordinary Congress worker in Warangal. Over the years she steadily rose within the party through consistent grassroots work and commitment to party activities.
Her early public service included roles such as chairperson of a primary agricultural cooperative society and director of the Orugallu Marketing Society during the 1990s. These responsibilities helped her gain administrative experience and strong connections with local communities.
In 2005 she contested the Warangal Municipal Corporation elections and won as a corporator from the thirty ninth division. Despite being a first time corporator she was later given the opportunity to serve as Mayor of Warangal demonstrating the trust the party placed in her leadership.
Swarna also held several important positions within the party including General Secretary of the Women Congress in united Andhra Pradesh. After the formation of Telangana she continued her work as a PCC member representing Warangal East and Wardhannapet regions.
She contested the Warangal West Assembly seat in the 2014 elections but did not win. Even after the defeat she remained active in party programs and campaigns.
In recent years she participated in major political movements including padayatras led by senior leaders Bhatti Vikramarka and Revanth Reddy. She also joined Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Telangana and walked alongside the national leader.
Recognizing her dedication and long standing commitment to the party the Congress leadership has now entrusted her with the responsibility of leading the Telangana Mahila Congress. Party leaders expressed confidence that her experience and grassroots connection will strengthen the organization and inspire more women to participate in politics.
