Veteran politician and former Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh Nadendla Bhaskar Rao will be laid to rest today, following his demise at the age of 90. His funeral is scheduled to take place at 4 pm at Panjagutta crematorium in Hyderabad.

He had been undergoing treatment for health complications at a private hospital for some time. His condition worsened recently, and he breathed his last on Wednesday morning, marking the end of a long political journey that spanned several decades.

Leaders from across the political spectrum have expressed grief over his passing, remembering his contributions to the state and his experience in governance. Many described him as a seasoned leader who played a significant role during a crucial phase in Andhra Pradesh politics.

Born on June 23, 1935, in Guntur, Bhaskar Rao began his political career with the Congress party and was elected as an MLA for the first time in 1978 from Vijayawada East constituency. Over the years, he held several important positions and remained active in public life.

He later joined hands with N. T. Rama Rao to establish the Telugu Desam Party and was a key figure in its early success. Following the party’s victory in the 1982 elections, he played an influential role in the government.

In a dramatic political turn, Bhaskar Rao assumed office as the Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh in August 1984 and served for about a month. Despite the brief tenure, his stint remains a notable chapter in the state’s political history.

His death marks the loss of an experienced leader whose career reflected both political evolution and pivotal moments in Andhra Pradesh’s governance.
