The Telangana government has indicated a positive step towards addressing a long pending demand of journalists in Hyderabad by considering allocation of housing plots for eligible media professionals.
Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the government is committed to resolving the issue and is currently holding discussions with concerned departments to finalise the process. He assured that clear guidelines will be released soon after consultations are completed.
The announcement came during a meeting held in Hyderabad with representatives of various journalist housing societies. Participants shared their concerns and requests, highlighting the delay in allotment of house sites over the years.
Responding to the representations, the minister said it was encouraging to see journalists come together on a common platform. He added that the government would carefully examine all aspects before taking a final decision.
Officials including Media Academy chairman K Srinivas Reddy and Information Department Commissioner Mukunda Reddy were also present during the discussions.
Journalist union leaders have urged the government to extend similar benefits beyond Hyderabad. Telangana Union of Working Journalists representatives requested that journalists in districts who have been waiting for years should also be included in the housing allocation process.
The minister responded positively, stating that once the process begins in Hyderabad, steps will be taken to implement it across districts as well. The move is expected to bring relief to many journalists who have been seeking housing support for a long time.
