The much awaited IND vs NZ T20 World Cup 2026 final has begun with high intensity as India took an aggressive start after being asked to bat first. The match is being played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad with a packed crowd witnessing the title clash.

India captain Suryakumar Yadav said the team was happy to bat first and put runs on the board in such an important match. According to him scoring big in finals always creates pressure on the opposition and the team was excited to play in front of a full stadium.

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and chose to bowl first. He said the pitch looked good and the team would try to restrict India to a manageable total before chasing the target.

India openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson provided a quick start. In the early overs Abhishek Sharma played attacking cricket and reached a remarkable half century in just eighteen balls. His aggressive stroke play helped India accelerate during the powerplay.

After four overs India had already scored fifty one runs without losing a wicket with Samson and Abhishek at the crease. Earlier in the innings Samson opened the scoring with a six off Matt Henry while Abhishek struck consecutive boundaries against Jacob Duffy.

The pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium is expected to favor batters. Reports suggest that the surface offers good pace and bounce but very little spin which allows batsmen to play attacking shots freely.

India entered the final as defending champions and this is their fourth appearance in a T20 World Cup final. The team has already won the title twice and now has the opportunity to create history by becoming the first nation to win the trophy three times and also defend the title successfully.

New Zealand on the other hand is playing its second T20 World Cup final and is aiming to win its first title. The team reached the final after a strong campaign led by Finn Allen who has been the top run scorer for the side in the tournament.

Overall the rivalry between India and New Zealand in T20 internationals has largely favored India with eighteen wins in thirty matches. However in previous T20 World Cup meetings New Zealand has dominated by winning all three encounters.

With both teams fielding strong playing elevens the IND vs NZ T20 World Cup 2026 final promises to deliver an exciting contest as fans eagerly wait to see who lifts the trophy.
