In a major political development, senior leader and former minister Jeevan Reddy has announced his resignation from the Congress party, bringing an end to his four decade long association. The decision has sparked intense discussion in political circles, especially in the Karimnagar region where he has been a prominent figure.
Reddy made his decision public through an open letter, stating that he would officially step down from the party on March 25. In the letter, he expressed deep dissatisfaction over recent developments within the party and highlighted the emotional strain he has been facing.
He revealed that for nearly 20 months, he had been going through what he described as continuous humiliation. He said continuing in a place where there is no respect had become impossible, and that his self respect no longer allowed him to remain in the party.
Efforts were made by senior leaders to persuade him to reconsider. Ministers Sridhar Babu and Adluri Laxman Kumar along with MLA Medipalli Satyam met him at his residence in Jagtial and held discussions for over an hour. However, Reddy remained firm on his decision and refused to change his stance.
Political observers believe that a key trigger behind his resignation was the recent entry of Jagtial MLA Dr Sanjay Kumar into the Congress party. Reddy was reportedly upset over what he saw as greater importance being given to leaders who switched parties, despite his long standing loyalty and service.
Looking ahead, Jeevan Reddy is set to hold a major meeting with his supporters and party workers on March 25 at Bandari Gardens in Jagtial. During the gathering, he is expected to outline his future political plans.
He has also announced a grassroots level outreach program starting March 27, where he plans to visit villages and interact with people. Through this initiative, he aims to explain the circumstances that led to his resignation and gather public opinion before taking his next political step.
