Justice Lisa Gill officially assumed office as a judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court in Amaravati on Friday marking an important development in the state judiciary. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur during a formal ceremony held in the first court hall of the High Court.
The event was attended by several senior legal personalities including judges of the High Court senior advocates and members of the legal fraternity. Additional Solicitor General Challa Dhanunjay Advocate General Dammalapati Srinivas and Bar Council Chairman Dwarakanath Reddy were among the prominent participants present during the ceremony.
Justice Lisa Gill has been transferred to the Andhra Pradesh High Court from the Punjab and Haryana High Court where she served as a judge for several years. Her arrival is seen as an important addition to the judicial bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
According to legal circles Justice Lisa Gill is expected to become the first woman Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court in the coming months. This is likely to happen after the retirement of current Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur who is scheduled to demit office in April.
Originally from Chandigarh Justice Lisa Gill completed her law education at Punjab University where she earned both LLB and LLM degrees. She began her legal career in nineteen ninety practicing as an advocate in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Her judicial career started on March thirty one two thousand fourteen when she was appointed as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Over the years she has handled several important cases and gained recognition within the legal community.
Senior advocates members of the Advocates Association and representatives from the Bar Council also attended the swearing in ceremony welcoming Justice Lisa Gill to the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Legal experts believe her experience and judicial expertise will strengthen the functioning of the High Court in the state.
