A historic development is set to take place in the Andhra Pradesh High Court as Justice Lisa Gill prepares to become its first woman Chief Justice. The Union government has approved her transfer from the Punjab and Haryana High Court following recommendations made by the Supreme Court Collegium.

Justice Lisa Gill currently serves as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. According to the notification issued by the central government she will soon join the Andhra Pradesh High Court marking an important moment in the institution history.

The present Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur is scheduled to retire on April twenty four. After his retirement Justice Lisa Gill will assume full charge as the Chief Justice.

Before taking over as Chief Justice she will first join the Andhra Pradesh High Court as a judge. Once Justice Thakur completes his tenure she will be elevated to the position of Chief Justice.

With this appointment Justice Lisa Gill will create history as the first woman to lead the Andhra Pradesh High Court since its formation. Her elevation is seen as a significant step for gender representation in the higher judiciary.
