A lunar eclipse has officially begun, drawing attention across the Telugu states as sky watchers look up for a rare celestial sight. During this phase, the moon is expected to take on a reddish hue, creating a striking view in the evening sky.

Astronomers explain that this eclipse is visible in India in what is known as the grastodita phase. This means the moon rises already under the shadow of the eclipse, offering a dramatic scene right from moonrise. Instead of gradually darkening, the moon appears partially eclipsed as it becomes visible.

In several major cities including Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Mumbai and Hyderabad, the eclipse can be observed between 6 26 pm and 6 46 pm, until the shadow gradually moves away. Weather conditions may influence visibility, but enthusiasts are hopeful for clear skies.

The reddish appearance of the moon during a lunar eclipse occurs due to the Earth blocking direct sunlight. The remaining light that reaches the moon passes through Earth atmosphere, scattering shorter wavelengths and allowing red tones to dominate.

Across the Telugu states, many people stepped out in the evening to witness the event, while others followed traditional customs associated with eclipses. Scientists, however, emphasize that the lunar eclipse is a natural astronomical phenomenon and safe to observe with the naked eye.

As the eclipse progresses and the moon slowly emerges from Earth shadow, the rare grastodita phase offers a memorable moment for those watching the skies.
