The Madras High Court has issued notices to actor and political leader Vijay after a petition alleged significant discrepancies in the assets he declared in election affidavits.
The issue came to light during scrutiny of documents filed for two constituencies where Vijay is contesting. According to the petition, the asset details mentioned in the affidavits submitted for each constituency show a wide variation, leading to questions about the accuracy of the disclosures.
The court, while hearing the matter, directed notices to Vijay along with officials from the Election Commission and concerned authorities. The bench has sought an explanation regarding the difference and asked all parties to respond.
The petitioner claimed that the value of assets declared in one affidavit was substantially lower than the amount mentioned in the other, with a gap reportedly exceeding 100 crore. It was also pointed out that no supporting documents were submitted to justify such a variation.
Vijay, who is contesting from two assembly constituencies, had filed separate affidavits as part of the nomination process. The differences in these filings have now triggered legal scrutiny, bringing the matter into the spotlight.
The case has added a new dimension to the ongoing election environment, as transparency in financial disclosures is considered a key aspect of the nomination process. Authorities are expected to review the details carefully before arriving at any conclusions.
With notices issued, further developments will depend on the responses submitted and the court’s subsequent observations in the case.
