India United States relations witnessed a fresh turnaround after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump held a detailed phone conversation that helped ease recent trade tensions and reopen dialogue on cooperation.

Following the call President Trump announced a reduction in import duties on Indian goods bringing tariffs down to 18 percent with immediate effect. He said additional levies proposed earlier would no longer apply and highlighted progress on trade understandings between the two countries.

Trump shared his remarks publicly praising Modi as a close friend and underlining the importance of stronger commercial ties. He also indicated that discussions covered global energy issues and future economic coordination.

Responding soon after Prime Minister Modi expressed appreciation for the tariff relief and described the interaction as warm and forward looking. He said the decision would benefit Indian producers and consumers while strengthening trust between the two democracies.

Modi emphasised that when India and the United States work together the impact goes beyond trade and contributes to global stability growth and prosperity. He added that India looks forward to taking the partnership to new heights through cooperation and mutual respect.

The renewed engagement comes after a period of strain last year driven largely by tariff disputes. With this latest exchange both sides appear keen to move past differences and focus on shared economic and strategic priorities.
