Telangana is set to launch an ambitious spiritual and tourism project along the Musi river, with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy scheduled to lay the foundation stone on March 28. The highlight of the plan is the construction of a grand Omkareshwara temple near Manchirevula.

The proposed project goes beyond a single temple. Officials say the development is aimed at transforming the Musi riverfront into a symbol of cultural unity, with plans to include places of worship for multiple faiths across different locations in the city.

A major attraction will be a towering 100 foot statue of Lord Shiva to be installed in the river. Surrounding the statue, authorities plan to develop landscaped parks, boating facilities and other amenities to turn the area into a major tourist destination.

The temple itself will be built within the premises of the historic Veerabhadraswamy temple, which has a legacy of several centuries. Designed with inputs from the Sringeri Sharada Peetham, the structure is expected to feature traditional architecture with multiple mandapams and a prominent gopuram.

This initiative is part of the larger Musi river rejuvenation plan, for which the government has already allocated significant funds in the state budget. The broader vision includes developing the riverfront on the lines of international models, enhancing both its cultural and environmental value.

Infrastructure improvements are also part of the project. Better road connectivity from the Outer Ring Road, dedicated parking spaces and water retention systems are planned to support increased visitor flow and maintain the river ecosystem.

Officials believe the project will not only preserve heritage but also create a unique blend of spirituality and tourism, positioning Hyderabad as a destination that reflects both tradition and modern development.
