Authorities have begun the process of identifying and removing ineligible beneficiaries from the PM Kisan scheme in Telangana. Around 32000 farmers in the state have been found to be receiving financial assistance despite not meeting the eligibility conditions.
The PM Kisan scheme introduced by the central government aims to provide financial support to farmers by depositing six thousand rupees every year into their bank accounts. The assistance is given in three installments of two thousand rupees each.
Officials discovered that several individuals who are not eligible for the scheme were still receiving benefits. Among them were income tax payers and people who had already sold their agricultural land but continued to receive payments under the scheme.
Due to these irregularities authorities have started verifying beneficiary details and removing the names of ineligible farmers from the list. The central government has directed state officials to carefully examine the records of beneficiaries.
Data from the agriculture department shows that the PM Kisan scheme has provided financial assistance to millions of farmers across the country since it was launched in 2018. So far twenty one installments have been released to eligible farmers.
However complaints regarding misuse of the scheme led to stricter verification processes. Officials have been conducting periodic reviews and checking beneficiary data in villages across the state.
In Telangana alone about 32000 farmers have now been identified as ineligible and steps are being taken to stop future payments to them.
The verification process includes checking income tax records land ownership details and Aadhaar linked information. Farmers who have sold their land or those who do not meet the scheme conditions will no longer receive financial support.
Authorities also noted that the introduction of e KYC and Aadhaar linking has helped detect several irregularities in the beneficiary list. These measures revealed cases where multiple family members were receiving benefits from the same landholding.
Officials said the ongoing verification will continue to ensure that only genuine farmers receive support under the PM Kisan scheme.
