- Property tax deadline March 31 for final payments
- OTS scheme ends with interest waiver for defaulters
- Early bird scheme offers rebate from April 1
March 31 marks the final day for property tax payments for the current financial year, with authorities expecting a surge in last minute collections. Officials estimate that around one hundred crore rupees could be collected by midnight as taxpayers rush to clear dues.
So far, a total of 2390 crore rupees has been collected across three municipal corporations. Among them, CMC leads with 955 crore rupees, followed by GHMC with 907 crore rupees and MMC with 528 crore rupees.
Along with the tax deadline, the One Time Settlement scheme also comes to an end today. The scheme offered a significant relief of up to 90 percent waiver on interest for pending dues, encouraging defaulters to settle their liabilities. With the deadline approaching, officials have stepped up enforcement measures.
Authorities have already taken action against major defaulters by seizing around 80 properties with large pending taxes. Strict measures are expected to continue against those who fail to comply even after the final deadline.
In Tandur, officials adopted an unusual approach to recover dues from a petrol pump that had not paid taxes for five years. Municipal staff blocked the premises using garbage vehicles, prompting the management to assure payment within two days.
Meanwhile, starting April 1, the government will introduce the early bird scheme for the new financial year 2026 to 27. Under this scheme, taxpayers who pay their property tax in advance will receive a 5 percent rebate.
Officials stated that the scheme will be available through online platforms and service centers, and may be extended for three months with possible additional offers. Authorities have urged citizens to clear dues promptly to avoid penalties and benefit from available schemes.
