Russia has indicated that President Vladimir Putin is likely to visit India in September to participate in the upcoming BRICS summit, signaling continued diplomatic engagement between the two nations.

The possibility of Putin’s visit was confirmed by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko during an interaction with media in Colombo. He stated that an invitation had already been extended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that there are currently no obstacles preventing Putin from attending the summit.

Rudenko emphasized that Russia strongly supports India’s efforts to build consensus among BRICS member countries. He described the grouping as a platform that brings together nations with diverse policies and priorities, yet united by shared global interests.

While acknowledging that global developments could influence final decisions closer to the event, he made it clear that Moscow is seriously considering the invitation and values its participation in the summit.

India has already sent formal invitations to all member nations for both the BRICS Foreign Ministers meeting scheduled in May and the main summit planned for September. The event is expected to play a crucial role in shaping discussions on economic cooperation and geopolitical alignment.

During his visit to Sri Lanka, Rudenko also assured support to help the country address its ongoing fuel crisis, highlighting Russia’s broader regional engagement. His visit follows closely after another Russian delegation toured Sri Lanka, reflecting active diplomatic outreach.

The upcoming BRICS summit in India is anticipated to bring together key global leaders, with Putin’s possible presence adding significance to the event and reinforcing the importance of multilateral cooperation.
