After days of relentless heat across Telangana, there may finally be some relief in sight. The India Meteorological Department in Hyderabad has indicated the possibility of rainfall over the next two days, offering a break from soaring temperatures that have touched nearly 45 degrees Celsius in several districts.
According to officials, light to moderate showers are expected at isolated locations across the state. This development comes at a time when residents have been struggling with extreme heat and humidity, making daily life increasingly difficult.
The shift in weather is linked to a surface trough that has been evolving over the southern parts of the country. Earlier, this system extended from North Telangana down to the Comorin region. It has now moved and currently stretches from areas around North Interior Karnataka to the Gulf of Mannar, passing through regions including Rayalaseema, South Interior Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu at an altitude of around 900 metres above sea level.
Meteorologists have also noted that an upper air cyclonic circulation over North Telangana, which existed earlier, has weakened. However, the presence of the trough continues to influence weather patterns in the region.
For the next three days, including today, Thursday, and Friday, isolated rainfall activity is expected across Telangana. While temperatures are likely to remain largely stable, the state may witness thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40 to 50 kilometres per hour initially, followed by slightly lower wind speeds in the following days.
Authorities have advised people to stay cautious during thunderstorms and avoid open areas during lightning activity. While the rainfall may not be widespread, even scattered showers could bring some much needed respite from the intense summer conditions.
