This year’s event is particularly interesting because it will coincide with a Micromoon. During a Micromoon, the Moon is slightly farther away from Earth than usual, making it appear smaller in the sky compared to a typical full moon.

Despite its name, a Blue Moon does not actually appear blue in color. The term refers to the second full moon occurring within the same calendar month. Because this phenomenon is relatively uncommon, it often attracts significant interest from astronomy enthusiasts and casual observers alike.

People across India are expected to get a clear view of the Blue Moon during the evening hours. Weather permitting, the event can be observed between approximately 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm without the need for telescopes or binoculars.

Many people often confuse a Blue Moon with a Supermoon, but the two events are entirely different. A Blue Moon is determined by the calendar and simply refers to the second full moon in a month.

A Supermoon, on the other hand, occurs when a full moon coincides with the Moon’s closest approach to Earth. As a result, the Moon appears larger and brighter than normal. In contrast, the upcoming Micromoon will look slightly smaller because of its greater distance from our planet.
