A proposal to install a statue of Professor Jayashankar in Amaravati has drawn attention after Telangana Young Thinkers Forum convener Rohith Vakrala wrote to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu seeking support for the initiative.

In his letter, Rohith Vakrala requested that the Andhra Pradesh government consider allocating space in Amaravati for a statue of Professor Jayashankar, who is widely regarded as one of the key ideologues behind the Telangana movement and the creation of the separate state.

The request comes amid discussions about the recognition of prominent personalities from different regions. Supporters of the proposal argue that Professor Jayashankar’s contribution to public discourse and regional identity deserves acknowledgment beyond Telangana as well.

The issue has gained interest because several statues of leaders and cultural figures associated with Andhra Pradesh have been installed in Telangana even after the state’s formation. Public spaces in Telangana feature statues of personalities such as former Chief Minister K Rosaiah and legendary singer S P Balasubrahmanyam, while a statue of N T Rama Rao was also recently unveiled.

Against this backdrop, attention has now turned to whether the Andhra Pradesh government will respond positively to the request and identify a suitable location in Amaravati for the proposed statue.

While no official decision has been announced so far, the letter has sparked discussion among political observers and supporters regarding the recognition of influential leaders who played important roles in shaping the history of both Telugu speaking states.
