Customers across the country may experience disruptions in banking operations as employees of the State Bank of India prepare for a nationwide strike. The planned action has drawn attention because of the bank’s massive customer base and its significant role in the country’s financial system.
Employee unions have announced that the strike will take place on the 25th and 26th of this month. In view of the situation, SBI has requested customers to make use of alternative banking options to avoid inconvenience during the period.
The bank has advised account holders to rely on services such as ATMs, Customer Service Points, internet banking, YONO, and UPI platforms for carrying out important transactions. Officials stated that steps are being taken to reduce the impact on customers and ensure that essential services remain available.
The situation may become more significant because of consecutive holidays surrounding the strike period. With the fourth Saturday and Sunday preceding the strike and holidays expected in some states after the strike period, customers could face an extended disruption in regular branch operations.
The strike is being organized under the leadership of employee associations that have raised several demands. These include requests for adequate staff recruitment, appointments of support personnel and security staff, changes related to pension fund management systems, and concerns over outsourcing of permanent roles.
Employee representatives have stated that they remain firm on their demands and warned that the protest will continue if their issues are not addressed. Meanwhile, customers are being encouraged to complete important banking work in advance to avoid last minute difficulties.
