A devastating road accident on the Trichy Coimbatore National Highway in Tamil Nadu left six people dead during the early hours of Wednesday, sending shockwaves through the region.
The fatal crash occurred near Kumaravalasu in Vellakovil area of Tiruppur district. Among those killed were a police constable, a lorry driver, and four passengers travelling in a car, including a woman.
According to senior police officials, police constable Ravikumar and the lorry driver were removing barricades placed across the road when a speeding car suddenly rammed into them. The impact was reportedly so severe that both men died on the spot.
After hitting the barricades and the two men, the car was badly damaged in the collision. All four occupants inside the vehicle also lost their lives instantly due to the intensity of the crash.
The tragic incident created panic among motorists and local residents who gathered near the accident site soon after the collision. Police teams immediately reached the location and began rescue and investigation operations.
Authorities shifted the bodies of the deceased to the Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem examinations. Officials stated that further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident and whether overspeeding or negligence played a role in the crash.
The accident once again raised concerns over road safety on busy national highways, especially during night and early morning hours when visibility and speeding often become major risks for travelers and road workers.
