The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced its first list of candidates for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, bringing key names into the spotlight. Among them, former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has been fielded from the prominent Mylapore constituency in Chennai.
The party released a list of twenty seven candidates for the elections scheduled on April 23. Tamilisai’s entry into the fray from a high profile seat has generated political interest, especially as she returns to active electoral politics.
At the same time, the absence of former state BJP president K Annamalai from the candidate list has become a major talking point. Party leaders clarified that the decision was taken by the high command, with Annamalai expected to focus on campaigning across the state rather than contesting a single constituency.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal stated that Annamalai would play a crucial role in strengthening the NDA alliance campaign throughout Tamil Nadu. Annamalai himself had earlier indicated that he would work as a party member to ensure victory for alliance candidates.
As part of the AIADMK led NDA alliance, the BJP is contesting in twenty seven constituencies. The list also includes Union Minister L Murugan from Avanashi reserved constituency and BJP Mahila Morcha national president Vanathi Srinivasan from Coimbatore North.
State BJP president Nainar Nagendran will contest from Sattur, while S Vijayadharani, who recently joined the party from Congress, has been fielded from Vilavancode constituency.
Tamil Nadu will go to polls for all 234 Assembly seats on April 23, with counting scheduled for May 4. The elections are expected to witness intense competition among major political alliances in the state.
