The political suspense surrounding the formation of the new government in Tamil Nadu has finally come to an end. TVK founder and actor turned politician Vijay is now set to become the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after officially staking claim to form the government before Governor Rajendra Arlekar.
Vijay met the Governor at Raj Bhavan in Chennai on Friday evening and submitted letters of support from allied parties. He reportedly informed the Governor that his alliance had the backing of 118 MLAs, comfortably crossing the required majority mark to form the government.
Following the meeting, the Governor agreed to invite Vijay to establish the new administration. The oath taking ceremony is scheduled to take place tomorrow at 11 AM at Nehru Stadium in Chennai, where Vijay will officially assume office as the Chief Minister.
The development marks a dramatic turnaround in Tamil Nadu politics. In recent days, intense speculation surrounded the government formation process, with reports suggesting rival parties including DMK and AIADMK could come together to keep Vijay away from power. However, the latest political equations changed the situation completely.
Support from Congress, VCK, CPI and CPM helped Vijay led TVK secure the numbers needed to reach the majority mark. After concluding his meeting with the Governor, Vijay visited the offices of CPI and CPM leaders and personally thanked the Left parties for extending their support during the crucial phase.
Earlier, Vijay’s attempts to form the government were reportedly rejected due to insufficient numbers. Meanwhile, rumors also circulated that TVK leaders had approached the Supreme Court over a possible constitutional crisis. The party later denied those reports and clarified that no petition had been filed before the apex court.
