According to preliminary details shared by the United States Secret Service Office of Communication, the incident occurred around 6 pm near the intersection of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. Officials said the suspect approached the White House security checkpoint before suddenly pulling out a firearm from a bag.

Security officers quickly reacted after the suspect allegedly began firing toward personnel stationed at the checkpoint. Officers returned fire, leading to an exchange that left the gunman seriously injured.

The suspect was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. However, doctors later confirmed that he had died from his injuries. Reports also indicated that one person sustained injuries during the incident.
