Centre Releases Rs 387 Crore for Telangana Gram Panchayats Boosting Rural Development

Centre releases fresh funds under the Fifteenth Finance Commission bringing relief to Telangana gram panchayats as newly elected sarpanches receive long pending financial support for village development works.

  • Centre releases Rs 387 crore for gram panchayats.
  • Telangana panchayat funds cross Rs 646 crore.
  • More central grants awaited for rural development.

Gram panchayats across Telangana have received a major financial boost with the Centre releasing an additional Rs 387 crore under the Fifteenth Finance Commission. The latest release follows an earlier instalment of Rs 259.36 crore, taking the total funds released so far to Rs 646.36 crore.

The release has brought cheer to newly elected sarpanches who recently assumed office after the completion of gram panchayat elections. The funds had been held up earlier due to technical issues ahead of the elections, delaying crucial development works in villages.

Officials said Telangana is due to receive around Rs 3,000 crore in total under the Fifteenth Finance Commission for gram panchayats. With two instalments released so far, nearly Rs 2,400 crore is still pending and expected to be released in phases.

The release came after the state Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department submitted the required data and compliance details sought by the Centre. Once the formalities were completed, the central government began clearing the long pending grants.

Congress leaders said sustained pressure by Panchayat Raj Minister Seethakka played a key role in pushing the Centre to release the funds, ensuring villages do not suffer due to financial constraints.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders stated that the delay was purely technical and linked to the election process, adding that funds are now being released as per norms after elections concluded.

With fresh funds now reaching gram panchayats, local bodies are expected to accelerate development works including sanitation water supply roads and basic infrastructure, bringing renewed momentum to rural development across Telangana.
