Urban Verdict Favors Congress as Nalgonda and Suryapet Back the Hand

Urban voters in Nalgonda and Suryapet districts delivered a decisive mandate to Congress, handing it control of the corporation and ten municipalities while rivals lost ground across key towns.

  • Congress dominated ward results and secured the Nalgonda Municipal Corporation.
  • BRS retained only Tirumalagiri while BJP saw limited success.
  • Jana Sena opened its account in Nereducherla for the first time.

The urban verdict in Nalgonda and Suryapet districts clearly tilted in favour of the Congress, as voters handed the party a sweeping mandate across municipalities and the newly formed Nalgonda Municipal Corporation. The results reinforced the party stronghold in the region, extending its influence beyond rural areas into key urban centres.

Congress emerged victorious in ten municipalities and captured the Nalgonda Corporation for the first time. Out of 302 wards across the two districts, the party secured 192, leaving BRS with 71 and BJP with just seven. Smaller parties and independents made marginal gains, while Jana Sena marked its Telangana debut by winning a ward in Nereducherla.

In Nalgonda Corporation, which has 48 divisions, Congress won 27 and comfortably crossed the majority mark to claim the mayor post. The opposition BRS finished far behind, while BJP, Forward Block, MIM and independents shared the remaining seats. The victory was seen as a result of coordinated campaigning and sustained outreach by party leaders.

Suryapet district largely followed the same trend. Congress won four of the five municipalities, with Tirumalagiri being the lone exception where BRS managed to hold on. Party leaders credited development initiatives, frequent reviews and door to door campaigning for the strong performance in towns such as Huzurnagar, Kodad, Suryapet and Nereducherla.

Senior leaders and local MLAs remained actively involved throughout the campaign, strengthening organisational coordination and voter confidence. Roadshows, joint campaigns and focused urban development promises resonated with voters, helping Congress consolidate its lead.

The results underline a clear urban shift towards Congress in southern Telangana, while BRS and BJP struggled to retain their footing. With control of the corporation and most municipalities, Congress now faces higher expectations from urban voters who backed the party for governance and development.
