Tariq Rahman to Take Oath as Bangladesh Prime Minister on February 17

Bangladesh prepares for a new government as Tariq Rahman is set to take oath on February seventeen with invitations sent to regional leaders while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is unlikely to attend.

Bangladesh is gearing up for a significant political transition with the swearing in of a new government scheduled for February seventeen. The ceremony is expected to mark a fresh chapter in the country’s politics drawing attention across South Asia and beyond.

Tariq Rahman leader and president of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party will be sworn in as prime minister at the Parliament complex in Dhaka. Party sources say newly elected members of parliament will take oath first followed by the prime minister and the council of ministers later the same day.

As part of a major diplomatic outreach the interim administration has invited heads of government from thirteen countries. The invitees include India, China, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Malaysia, Brunei, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives and Bhutan reflecting Dhaka’s focus on regional and global engagement.

BNP representatives have described February seventeen as a historic day for Bangladesh stating that the formation of the new government will open a new political chapter. They also highlighted the significance of international leaders attending the ceremony in Dhaka.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received an official invitation to attend the swearing in. However sources indicate that his presence is unlikely as he is scheduled to meet French President Emmanuel Macron in Mumbai on the same day as part of a pre planned engagement.

In Modi’s absence India is expected to be represented by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar or Vice President C P Radhakrishnan. With diplomatic activity intensifying the focus now remains on how the new leadership under Tariq Rahman will shape Bangladesh’s political and foreign policy direction.
