A serious accident was narrowly avoided in Kadapa district after an RTC bus caught fire when it came into contact with overhead electric wires near Vempalle. Thanks to the quick response of the driver, all passengers managed to escape safely without injuries.

The incident took place near Veerannagattupalle on Sunday afternoon when the bus was travelling from Vempalle towards Kadiri. The vehicle, belonging to the Kadiri depot, was carrying around 18 passengers along with the conductor at the time of the mishap.

According to local accounts, the driver attempted to take an alternative route after a tipper vehicle blocked the main road. Unaware of the low hanging 11 KV electric wires on that stretch, the bus moved forward and came into contact with them, triggering a sudden fire.

As flames erupted inside the bus, passengers panicked and raised alarms. The driver immediately stopped the vehicle and ensured that everyone got down safely. The electric line reportedly tripped at the same moment, preventing a potentially fatal situation.

Fire department personnel rushed to the scene after receiving information and managed to bring the fire under control. By then, the bus had suffered significant damage.

Locals alleged that negligence during ongoing road works led to the electric wires hanging dangerously low. Officials from police, electricity department, and RTC inspected the site and began an inquiry into the incident.

Authorities have registered a case based on the complaint filed by the driver and conductor, and further investigation is underway to determine accountability.
