Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has strongly criticized the Centre over the handling of the women reservation bill, questioning the intent behind its introduction and subsequent failure in Parliament.
Speaking to the media in Delhi, Reddy alleged that the bill was combined with delimitation provisions, which he believes complicated the process and affected its chances of passing. He said that if the proposal had been presented with clarity and sincerity, it would have received broader support across parties.
The Chief Minister accused the government led by Narendra Modi of misrepresenting the situation after the bill did not pass. He described the outcome as a setback for the ruling party’s approach rather than the opposition’s stance.
Reddy also raised concerns that linking the bill with delimitation could create regional imbalances, particularly affecting southern states. He urged the Centre to avoid policies that may widen differences between regions.
Highlighting his party’s position, he stated that there is clear support for women reservation but stressed that it should be implemented through a straightforward and inclusive bill. He added that provisions for representation of marginalized groups should also be part of the legislation.
The Chief Minister called for reintroducing the earlier version of the bill and assured support if it is presented without additional conditions. He emphasized that the issue should be handled with seriousness rather than political considerations.
