Veteran politician and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nadendla Bhaskar Rao passed away on Wednesday morning in Hyderabad after battling illness. He was 90 and had been receiving treatment at a private hospital in the city.

Family members confirmed that his mortal remains will be kept at his residence in Jubilee Hills to allow supporters, political leaders and well wishers to pay their last respects. His final rites are scheduled to be held on Thursday afternoon in Hyderabad as per his wishes.

Bhaskar Rao had earlier expressed his desire for his cremation to take place at the Hindu crematorium in Panjagutta. The family has decided to carry out the ceremony accordingly, with arrangements being made for the same.

Born in Guntur in 1935, Bhaskar Rao began his political journey after completing his law education. He first entered the Assembly in 1978 and gradually rose through the ranks, earning recognition for his administrative experience and political influence.

He played an important role during the early days of the Telugu Desam Party and served as Finance Minister in the cabinet led by NT Rama Rao. His political career saw several turns, including a brief but controversial stint as Chief Minister in 1984.

His tenure as Chief Minister lasted just over a month, making it one of the shortest in the history of the state. The political developments during that period created a major stir and remain a significant chapter in Andhra Pradesh politics.

Over the years, Bhaskar Rao also worked under different leaderships and later continued his political journey with the Congress party before eventually joining the Bharatiya Janata Party in his later years.

Leaders across party lines expressed grief over his demise, recalling his long public life and contributions to the state. His passing marks the end of an era in Andhra Pradesh politics.
