Massive Seizures Cross Rs 1000 Crore in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal Elections

Election authorities have reported a sharp rise in enforcement activity during the ongoing Assembly elections, with total seizures in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal crossing Rs 1000 crore. The development reflects increased vigilance against attempts to influence voters through illegal means.

According to the Election Commission, the cumulative value of seized items has reached Rs 1072.13 crore since the launch of the Election Seizure Management System on February 26. Officials stated that the system has helped streamline tracking and monitoring of election related violations across both states.

A detailed breakdown of the seizures shows that cash worth Rs 127.67 crore has been confiscated so far. In addition, authorities have seized nearly 41000 litres of liquor valued at Rs 106.3 crore, pointing to widespread efforts to curb distribution of alcohol during the election period.

The enforcement agencies have also cracked down on illegal substances, recovering drugs worth Rs 184 crore. Precious metals including gold and silver valued at Rs 215 crore have been seized, indicating attempts to use high value items as inducements.

Apart from these, officials have confiscated various freebies estimated at Rs 418 crore. The Election Commission emphasized that strict surveillance and coordinated action are being carried out to ensure free and fair elections in both Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.

With polling underway, authorities continue to monitor activities closely, aiming to prevent any malpractice and maintain the integrity of the Election 2026 process.
