Efforts to strengthen grassroots governance are gathering pace as the state advances towards the goal of village self rule, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan said on Friday. Marking National Panchayati Raj Day, he shared that several reforms are being rolled out to empower local bodies and improve governance at the village level.
According to him, the government is focusing on restoring the importance of gram sabhas while granting greater autonomy to village panchayats. Over the past two years, multiple initiatives have been introduced to ensure that decision making begins at the grassroots, giving communities a stronger voice in local development.
He credited Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for extending full support to these efforts, which aim to bring long term transformation in rural administration. Coordination with central rural development programmes has also helped in implementing innovative projects at the village level.
Programmes such as village assemblies, community festivals, sanitation drives, rural livelihood missions and infrastructure initiatives are playing a key role in improving living conditions. These efforts have contributed to better hygiene, enhanced civic amenities and increased public participation in governance.
Pawan Kalyan also acknowledged the contribution of sarpanches, ward members and Panchayati Raj officials, along with citizens who are actively taking part in the Village Swaraj journey. He noted that their involvement is crucial in sustaining the momentum of rural development and achieving meaningful change across villages.
