BSNL Introduces Long Term Rural Broadband Plans with Upfront Payment Benefits

Affordable rural broadband plans promise 30 months validity, steady internet speeds, and free calling benefits while aiming to expand digital access across villages and bridge connectivity gaps in India

India’s state owned telecom provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has rolled out a set of long term broadband plans tailored specifically for rural users, offering extended validity and simplified billing through a one time payment model. These plans are part of the Rural FTTH category and are designed to strengthen internet access in villages where connectivity remains limited.

The initiative is aligned with the government backed BharatNet Project, which focuses on expanding high speed internet infrastructure in rural India. Under this framework, fiber connections are extended directly to homes and institutions using optical fiber networks, with installation often provided at no additional cost. The broader goal is to narrow the digital divide between urban and rural communities while supporting local businesses and governance.

Among the available options, the Fiber 9900 BharatNet plan stands out for users seeking higher data limits and faster speeds. Priced at Rs 9900 for a full 30 month period, the plan delivers internet speeds of up to 40 Mbps with a data allowance of 1200 GB. Once the data threshold is reached, speeds are reduced to 4 Mbps. Subscribers also receive a complimentary landline connection that enables unlimited voice calls across networks, although the handset must be purchased separately.

Another option, the Fiber 5900 BharatNet plan, caters to users with lighter internet needs. Available for Rs 5900 for the same 30 month duration, it offers speeds of up to 25 Mbps for 100 GB of data usage. After exhausting the data cap, speeds drop to 2 Mbps. Like the higher tier plan, it includes a free landline connection with unlimited calling benefits.

These broadband offerings eliminate the hassle of monthly billing, allowing users to pay once and stay connected for over two years without interruptions. The plans are currently listed on the official BSNL platform and can also be explored through nearby offices or the company’s self care application.

The Rural FTTH service is delivered through authorized local partners known as BharatNet Udyamis, who handle installation and maintenance in villages. With the scheme already reaching tens of thousands of villages, efforts are ongoing to extend coverage further and ensure more households gain access to reliable broadband services.

As demand for digital connectivity continues to rise in rural regions, such long validity plans could play a crucial role in bringing stable and affordable internet to underserved communities.
