Correcting personal details in Aadhaar has become increasingly important as the document is now central to banking, telecom services, and government benefits. To address this, the Unique Identification Authority of India has enabled a process that allows users to update their date of birth with proper verification.

However, the rules are strict. Authorities have clarified that the date of birth in Aadhaar can be updated only once. This makes it critical for applicants to ensure that the information they submit is accurate and supported by valid documents. Any mismatch or unclear proof may result in rejection of the request.

To complete the update, users must provide officially accepted documents that clearly mention their correct date of birth. These typically include a birth certificate, school leaving certificate or class 10 marksheet, passport, PAN card, or any government issued identity document carrying verified date of birth details. The clarity and authenticity of these documents play a key role in approval.

The update process has been designed to be accessible both online and offline. For those who prefer visiting a center, Aadhaar Seva Kendras continue to offer document verification and biometric authentication services. On the other hand, users comfortable with digital platforms can complete the process from home using the official portal.

Online updates require users to log in through the Aadhaar website using their Aadhaar number and a one time password sent to their registered mobile number. After accessing the profile, applicants can select the date of birth update option, enter the correct details, and upload scanned copies of supporting documents. A nominal fee of 50 rupees is charged for this service.

Once the request is submitted, users receive a service request number, which can be used to track the status of the update. This adds transparency to the process and allows applicants to stay informed about progress without repeated follow ups.

Officials emphasize that having the correct date of birth in Aadhaar is not just a formality. It is essential for completing KYC procedures, accessing financial services, applying for jobs, and receiving benefits under various government schemes. Errors in such a key document can lead to unnecessary complications in daily life.

With the simplified online system now in place, authorities expect more users to correct discrepancies quickly. At the same time, the one time update rule serves as a reminder that accuracy at the time of submission is more important than ever.
