Andhra Pradesh is moving closer to becoming a key player in the aerospace and defense sector with a major DRDO aircraft manufacturing center planned in Sri Sathya Sai district. The project, estimated at an investment of 15000 crore rupees, is expected to significantly boost industrial growth in the region.
The proposed facility will manufacture Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft, a fifth generation stealth fighter designed for the Indian Air Force and Navy. These aircraft are expected to be developed using indigenous technology and will eventually serve as a replacement for existing fighter jets.
Land allocation for the project has already been initiated, with around 600 acres identified for the facility. The state government is also prepared to provide an additional 400 acres if required, ensuring smooth execution and future expansion of the project.
Sources indicate that the foundation stone for the project may be laid soon, with the state leadership actively pushing for rapid progress. Authorities are aiming to complete initial development phases quickly, with a prototype expected by 2029 and full scale production targeted around 2035.
The location near Puttaparthi offers strategic advantages, as it is close to both the local airport and the Bengaluru International Airport. This connectivity is expected to attract more companies and investments into the region, strengthening its position as a defense manufacturing hub.
Alongside this project, other major defense related investments are also being planned in the district. Companies are increasingly choosing this region due to limited expansion opportunities near Bengaluru and the availability of land and infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh.
With multiple projects lined up, Sri Sathya Sai district is steadily transforming into a major center for aerospace and defense manufacturing, opening new opportunities for employment, innovation, and economic growth in the state.
