Aadhaar Update Rules Revised With New Charges for Personal and Biometric Changes
UIDAI introduces updated fee structure for Aadhaar corrections including name address and biometric updates while keeping some online services free until September 2026 to encourage digital self service among users nationwide

Updating Aadhaar details is set to become slightly more expensive for users visiting service centres, as new charges for corrections and biometric updates have been clarified by the Unique Identification Authority of India. The move aims to streamline services while encouraging more people to shift toward online updates.
According to the latest information, any correction related to personal details such as name, address, mobile number, email, or date of birth will now cost 75 rupees when done at an Aadhaar service centre. This fee applies each time a user requests a change, making it advisable to review all details carefully and complete updates in one visit instead of multiple requests.
Biometric updates, which include fingerprints, iris scans, and photographs, come with a higher charge of up to 125 rupees. These updates are particularly important when existing data becomes outdated or fails authentication. For children, biometric updates are mandatory at certain age milestones, although there is some relief as updates for those between five and seventeen years are free within the prescribed timeframe.
While offline services involve charges, the authority continues to promote digital updates. Users who upload identity and address proof through the official online portal can still access this service free of cost. This exemption is currently available until September 30, 2026, giving individuals a clear window to update their records without paying any fee.
The Aadhaar system has become a central requirement for accessing government schemes, banking services, and mobile connections across India. Ensuring that details are accurate is not just a formality but often essential for smooth verification processes.
Officials have also issued a caution regarding the update process. Users are advised to rely only on official platforms or authorized centres to make changes. Using unauthorized agents or third parties could expose individuals to fraud risks and misuse of personal data.
With these revised charges and continued free online options, the authority appears to be balancing operational costs with digital adoption. For millions of Aadhaar holders, understanding these changes can help save both time and money while keeping their identity records accurate and up to date.
