A major controversy has erupted in Hyderabad after police registered a POCSO case against Sai Bhagirath, son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar. The case was filed following allegations made by the family of a 17 year old girl from the city.
According to the complaint lodged at the Pet Basheerabad police station, the incident allegedly took place during a party at a farmhouse in Moinabad on December 31 last year. The girl’s mother claimed Bhagirath behaved inappropriately with her daughter after allegedly forcing her to consume alcohol. Police officials said the complaint was delayed because the girl had reportedly been under emotional distress after the incident.
Based on the allegations, police registered a case under sections of the POCSO Act and started an investigation. Officials confirmed that statements and evidence from both sides are currently being examined.
In a parallel development, Bhagirath filed a counter complaint with Karimnagar Two Town police alleging that the girl and her family were blackmailing him. He claimed they were pressuring him either to marry the girl or pay Rs 5 crore. Bhagirath also alleged that he had already paid Rs 50,000 to the girl’s father earlier.
The controversy deepened further after Bhagirath stated that some of his friends had also faced harassment from the same girl and that a separate case had been registered earlier at Nirmal police station. Reports also surfaced about an older criminal case involving the girl’s father in connection with an alleged kidnapping and extortion matter.
The issue quickly turned political after Bandi Sanjay accused his rivals of targeting his family because they could not challenge him politically. He described the controversy as a conspiracy designed to damage his image after becoming a Union Minister.
Meanwhile, K T Rama Rao from the BRS questioned the BJP leadership over the matter and raised concerns about the safety slogan promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The exchange has triggered a fresh political confrontation between BJP and BRS leaders in Telangana.
