Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin has once again defended his controversial comments on Sanatana Dharma, stating that his intention was to speak against social inequality and caste discrimination existing in society. He made it clear that criticism and threats against him would not force him to step back from his stand.
According to Udhayanidhi, his remarks were never aimed at hurting the sentiments of devotees or attacking personal faith. He explained that his opposition was directed toward practices that create discrimination and suppress weaker sections of society. He said the fight was for equal rights and dignity for all communities.
Clarifying his earlier statements, the DMK leader said asking for the removal of Sanatana Dharma should not be interpreted as opposing temple visits or religious worship. He stressed that temples must remain open and accessible to every section of society without discrimination. Equality and social justice, he said, are central principles of the Dravidian ideology.
The controversy has now expanded beyond Tamil Nadu and triggered nationwide political debate. Several BJP leaders and Hindu organizations strongly criticized Udhayanidhi’s comments, calling them offensive to Hindu beliefs. At the same time, DMK leaders and supporters defended him, saying the discussion was linked to social reform and the fight against caste based inequality.
In a recent social media post, Udhayanidhi reiterated that his movement is not against religion or personal beliefs. He said the real opposition is toward injustice and discrimination carried out in the name of religion. Political observers believe the issue may continue to create heated discussions in the coming days as reactions from different parties grow stronger.
